Rex Richards makes TUF 10, but has to pull out due to injury.

Rex Richards

Rex Richards a former NFL offensive lineman turned MMA fighter is one of the top up and comer's at KO Dynasty. At 8-2 and going 2-0 in Strikeforce Rex has only lost to UFC stud Shane Carwin, and a recent fight with Darrill Schoonover who is 13-0. Rex cut nearly 100 pounds to heavyweight which affected him during his fight with Darrill Schoonover which was Rex's first fight at heavyweight after the move from super heavyweight. Rex made the TUF 10 show which is featuring 4 other NFL players, and Kimbo Slice.

Unfortunately the Sunday before Rex was flying to Vegas for the show he had a injury to his MCL which pulled him off the show just days before the show. The injury does not require surgery, but will require 4 weeks of rehab. Now coming off his rehab he will be facing former UFC/PRIDE fighter Pat Smith June 27th at 5150 combat league in Sparks, Oklahoma.

After heart attack, KO Dynasty's Mickey Dubberly spreading word of MPD

Rex Richards

Mickey Dubberly woke up on a late March morning with a discomfort in his chest.

It was the same strange feeling he had experienced several months before, when a visit to an urgent-care facility produced a prescription to ease the pain.

But by 9 a.m., the pain was back. Dubberly's wife, who had lost her mother to a heart attack, urged her husband out of the bed and to the emergency room immediately.

"She went up to the desk and, 'You need to take care of my husband right now,'" Dubberly, CEO of the MMA management agency KO Dynasty, told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

The ER visit began a weeklong stay in the south Florida hospital to treat a minor heart attack, a diagnosis of a relatively unknown blood disorder that causes clotting and potentially life-threatening effects of clotting, now-regular visits to blood doctors and a campaign to educate a wider population on the disorder.

In all, there are four myeloproliferative disorders (MPD), and Dubberly's is the least serious. The disorders are slow-growing blood cancers in which the patient has high levels of red and white blood cells and platelets that cause the dangerous clotting.

His mild heart attack at age 32, which took the aggressive manager away from his stable of 50 or so fighters for some weeks and therefore made his desired family-like atmosphere more difficult, has led Dubberly to place awareness reminders on his fighters' shorts and find a national MPD foundation to support.

Now back to his day-to-day operations, Dubberly reflected recently on the experience and reiterated that he wants more people to know that regular blood pressure checks and simple blood tests can prevent a near-nightmare situation like the one he experienced and that nearly threatened his life.

"Guys don't want to go and get their blood done. I'm like that too," Dubberly said. "I would tell them to go get their blood checked, go get blood pressure checked. That's all you have to do, just keep doing that. You don't want to wind up in a hospital and have a couple-hundred-thousand-dollar bill."

Financial world to MMA

Dubberly doesn't have a personality that likes to be slowed.

By age 20 he received his stock broker's license and started a career in the financial world that would soon provide him the financial freedom to pursue his interest in MMA. Dubberly went through a series of successful business ventures, from stocks to mortgages.

After another few years and more success, Dubberly began contacting fighters for sponsorship opportunities. He soon had his company's mark on 15 fighters.

"I know how it sounds; how many people are looking for a mortgage on UFC, right?'" Dubberly said with a laugh. "I didn't care. I enjoyed helping the fighters."

As he talked to more fighters, Dubbely got the sense that many of them weren't finding the type of relationships they wanted in a search for a stable manager. Now financially stable from other interests, Dubberly decided to try managing, feeling he had the experience in dealing with people and enough knowledge of business and personal relationships to help the young fighters.

Since, Dubberly has built his KO Dynasty into one of the most respected MMA management firms in dealing with up-and-coming fighters. By March, things were really moving at the business.

"We were really peaking," Dubberly said.

Then the discomfort started in his chest.

The fight with MPD

At first, it seemed small, a discomfort in the chest and a tingling in the fingers five months ago that felt like someone was lightly tapping a hammer on the digits.

Dubberly's wife encouraged him to visit urgent care, where he learned his blood pressure was high, which was somewhat odd for a young guy who kept in shape and watched his diet.

"The guy said, 'Maybe you're nervous,'" Dubberly said. "They did the EKG, and everything checked out. They drew some blood and found out I had high blood platelets."

Dubberly's count was near 1 million, while the normal count is about 300,000. He visited a blood specialist.

"He said, 'Take these pills; everything will be fine,'" Dubberly said. "A few months later I had my heart attack."

It was after the March incident that Dubberly finally had his condition diagnosed, and he and his wife searched to learn more about MPD. They discovered that almost anyone can have MPD, that there is no general profile for a patient, and that the clotting can be life-threatening if unnoticed and untreated.

Bob Rosen, chairman of the MPD Foundation, said about 175,000 people in the U.S. have been diagnosed with MPD (including Rosen). There seems to be no profile for the common MPD patient, as a variety of ages, professions and walks of life are affected.

"We've tried to look for common denominators," Rosen said, "but we can't seem to find any."

Dubberly is hoping to use his place in the MMA world to educate more people on MPD. He hopes to convince them to have their blood pressure checked and their blood tested at least once a year to test for MPD and other disorders that otherwise have few symptoms.

He wants to prevent someone else from experiencing what he did - the fear that comes with a heart attack, the medical bills, the time away from his businesses and his fighters, with each of whom he has worked to build a special relationship.

"They've said, 'You'll live a very long life, and once you learn more you'll be more comfortable,'" said Dubberly, who added he's taking about a dozen pills per day to treat the condition. "I want to make sure no one experiences what I did and catches it earlier."

Josh 'The Dentist' Neer Booked For UFC 101 In Philadelphia August 8th Vs Kurt Pelligrino

Josh 'The Dentist' Neer

Josh "the Dentist" Neer coming off his fight of the night performance Feb 7th in Tampa for UFN 17 will be squaring off vs a very crafty Kurt Pellegrino. Josh defeated Mac Danzig and winner of the Ultimate Fighter show in the second round via triangle choke in the 2nd round.

Many considered Josh a underdog in this fight which he proved his critics wrong. Josh Neer is focused and has that fire with his eyes on the 155 belt. The winner of this fight will definitely move up in the ranks and possibly fight for the title with 1 or 2 more wins.

Tune in for a great fight card for UFC 101 with BJ Penn vs Kenny Florian, and Anderson Silva vs Forrest Griifin.

Former NFL player and heavyweight Rex Richards heading to "TUF" tryouts - MMA News

Rex Richards

by Dann Stupp on Mar 23, 2009 at 3:25 pm ET

Not a single fighter on the UFC's current roster of heavyweights entered the organization through "The Ultimate Fighter."

While the Spike TV-televised competition reality series has launched the careers of more than 100 UFC fighters during its eight seasons on air, the show has failed to introduce any current top-level heavyweights to the organization.

That could soon change, though, now that former NFL player and MMA prospect Rex Richards (8-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has decided to try out for the upcoming 10th season of the show.

Mickey Dubberly, CEO of KO Dynasty, today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that his 29-year-old client will head to the show's open tryouts, which take place April 6 in Seattle.

"The Ultimate Fighter 10" begins taping this summer and is tentatively scheduled for a September debut. Producers are inviting middleweights, light heavyweights and heavyweights to the tryout (though the show has never featured more than two weight classes in a season).

Richards, a former super heavyweight, recently dropped to heavyweight with the goal of joining the UFC's ranks. (That process was detailed in our recent "Fight Path" feature on Richards.)

"With Rex making the transition from super heavyweight to heavyweight, we feel it will be a good career move in making it in the UFC." Dubberly said. "With the weight cut to heavyweight, Rex is more explosive than ever. Not only does Rex have KO power, but he just earned his black belt in (Brazilian) jiu jitsu last week after eight years (of study)."

Richards, a decorated offensive lineman at Texas Tech, was a practice-squad member for the NFL's Indianapolis Colts in 2003, and he later played for the Arena Football League's San Jose SaberCats. However, he took up jiu jitsu during his playing days, and the lure of MMA soon became too strong.

He made his MMA debut in November 2005 and has posted an 8-1 record since then. All eight victories have come via first-round stoppage, and his lone loss came to current undefeated UFC heavyweight contender Shane Carwin at a 2007 Art of War show.

"Rex wants to fight in the NFL of MMA, which is in the UFC," Dubberly said. "He also wants to avenge his only loss against Shane Carwin."

Richards isn't guaranteed a spot on the cast, but he's likely to be an early favorite. After all, the pool of top-level heavyweight prospects is thin, and most competitors end up dropping to light heavyweight anyway. Take for instance "The Ultimate Fighter 2," the last installment of "TUF" to feature the big guys. Show winner Rashad Evans and semifinalist Keith Jardine soon dropped to light heavyweight, and none of the other competitors, such as show runner-up Brad Imes and Dan Christison, is currently with the UFC.

The drought could soon change, though.

Spencer Fisher ready for Caol Uno - MMA News

Spencer Fisher

March 19, 2009, By MatRatz.com Staff

MatRatz.com: Caol Uno is coming off a tough loss to Shinya Aoki. Do you think you will be able to present the same problems for Uno?

Spencer Fisher: Aoki and I are two different fighters. I'm a striker that brings the jiu-jitsu aspect. Aoki is a grappler through and through; there is no stand up in his body. Aoki is going to dive for your shoe laces, I'm going to make you eat my shoe laces. I bring different problems. I am more aggressive and I plan on ripping his head off.

MatRatz.com: Uno is known for his world class grappling, what are you expecting from him?

Spencer Fisher: He's a strong wrestler. I started out a month early for this fight because I know Caol Uno does not get tired. The majority of the fights he has won, he has taken the guy down and beat on him. But he likes to stand and bang. He's a world class submission guy. He got second place at Abu Dhabi. He's the real deal, I expect him to be my toughest fight in the UFC.

Matratz.com: Since you're no longer with the Miletich camp, where are you training for this fight?

Spencer Fisher: I got my own gym in Moline, Illinois. It's called Evolution. It's exciting to have my own gym open and running. I got a couple of professional boxers here training with me. I got Matt Pena working with me, and Josh Neer and Matt Grice will be coming up to train with me also for this fight. I just had surgery about three months ago; I don't want to disclose what it was, but I'm sure people have heard. But I will be 100% for this fight, no excuses.

MatRatz.com: If you get past Uno, who would you like to fight next.

Spencer Fisher: I want to fight somebody that will come to fight, not someone that lays on me for three rounds. I say that and I mean that, whole heartily. If you going to take me down, finish the fight. Don't lay on top off me and blanket me. No one wants to see that. I would like to fight B.J. Penn, I think he is the best fighter in the world.

MatRatz.com: B.J. Penn is set to fight Kenny Florian sometime this year. Do you think Florian has a shot at beating B.J. Penn?

Spencer Fisher: Yea, he does have a shot. But I think B.J. is going to make a statement with Florian in this fight. I know his last loss was controversial, but I think B.J is looking to make a statement.

MatRatz.com: You lost to Frankie Edgar, who is fighting Sean Sherk. Would you like to fight the winner of that fight?

Spencer Fisher: I want to fight someone; if they are going to take me down, they are going to try to finish the fight. Don't lay and blanket me, that is my biggest concern. If they take me down, then finish me. Otherwise, let's fight. People want to see a fight, not a wrestling match. The fans want to see a fight and that's what I do. I don't care who I fight as long as they come to fight. I'm not saying this to be arrogant or cocky; I just think people should come to fight. Don't let the judges decide it, come and finish me.

MatRatz.com: Sherk and Griffin threw down pretty much the whole fight; what was your thought seeing two wrestlers go out there and bang like that?

Spencer Fisher: Well, you're talking about two guys that cancel each others strong point. I saw that fight 100% staying on the feet. But, Sean can fight. He has his strong points, which are his wrestling and conditioning. But we saw in that fight with Griffin, if he can't take a guy down at will, then he will stand and trade, which makes for a more exciting fight.

MatRatz.com: Thanks for you time. It is appreciated...

Spencer Fisher: No problem, I want to thank KO dynasty and Toe2Toe.

Rex Richards Wins Again,s Eyes Carwin & UFC - MMA News

Rex Richards

Sometimes you've got to go where the action is, especially if it isn't where you're at. It's that simple mantra that has lead fighters to change weight classes in hopes of better fortune.

Such is the case for former pro football player Rex Richards, who after beginning his career over the 300-pound mark has made the decision to move down to the more prosperous heavyweight division after his most recent win.

On Feb. 21 in Odessa, Texas, Richards scored an impressive 19-second knockout of Dale Gill at the Night of Champions 5 event, closing out his super-heavyweight career in style and ushering in a new chapter for his fighting career.

"I actually warmed up a heck of a lot longer than the fight lasted," vexed Richards. "I went out there and landed one (punch) right on the button and the guy was out.

"I'm actually kind of angry about it; I wanted the fight to go longer because I made such a drastic cut in weight. I lost 42 pounds for the fight and didn't get a chance to show the skills off and show how much faster I was and everything - I won too quick."

With this fight over, now Richards focuses on his continuing his weight drop, which has had unexpectedly positive results so far.

"I feel faster, explosive and losing this weight is going to be a blessing for me in the cage," he stated. "I thought I was going to lose a lot of power, but I'm probably as strong as I used to be and hit a lot harder and faster now."

Eyeing the competition at heavyweight, Richards feels the attributes he brings both natural and learned will help set him up for success against anyone he faces.

"I'm always going to be one of the big heavyweights," he admitted. "I'm not going to be one of those guys that weighs in at 230 or 240. I'm always going to be cutting down from 275 or 280.

"I think I'm going to be one of the devastating few out there that gives guys fits not only because he's talented on the ground and has knockout power, but he's just bigger and more powerful than guys as well."

He is quick to note that his size won't be a hindrance, as it has been with some of the other larger fighters who tend to lumber in the cage. He fully intends on bringing the kind of fights that will make fans eager to follow the heavyweight division.

"My goal is to be the most exciting guy that's out there," he stated. "Just because I've had years of jiu-jitsu and am very talented on the ground, I still like knocking people out."

"I want to be the guy that when I walk out there, everyone knows that fight is going to be intense and it's gonna end as quick as it can. I'm not going to go out there and be a boring fighting - I plan on finishing every fighter I go up against."

Next up for Richards is a May 2 date with the Shark Fight promotion for a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation recognized heavyweight championship, and then perhaps on to the biggest stage of MMA to eventually avenge his only loss.

"My goal is to get in the UFC and to get the opportunity that Shane (Carwin) has got now, do well with that opportunity, and then I'd like to see my rematch with Shane when he's holding the UFC belt," he commented.

With the heavyweight division in need of an infusion of exciting talent, Richards could quickly find himself in demand should he continue the path his career has gone so far.

"I want to thank Atomic Fight Wear, Furia Fight Wear, and Rupture Fight Wear," he closed out. "I want to thank Brad and Mickey with KO Dynasty, and Paul Buentello.

"You guys keep an eye out for me. It's going to be a big year. I'm going to explode onto the scene and it's going to be a fun ride this year; we're going to have a blast."

UFC signs lightweight Josh Neer to a new four-fight deal - MMA News

Josh 'The Dentist' Neer

by Dann Stupp on Feb 17, 2009 at 4:01 pm ET

Following his second-round submission victory over "The Ultimate Fighter 6" winner Mac Danzig earlier this month at UFC Fight Night 17, lightweight Josh Neer (25-7-1 MMA, 4-4 UFC) has signed a new four-fight contract with the UFC.

Mickey Dubberly, CEO of KO Dynasty, today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) of his client's signing.

The new deal deal comes after a stretch in which Neer has gone 4-1 in his past five fights and 8-2 since November 2006.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The signing also comes less than two months after Neer was arrested following an early-morning New Year's Day police chase in which he was charged with second-offense operating a vehicle while intoxicated and eluding police.

Neer put the episode behind him, and after the UFC decided to keep him on the card, the 25-year-old fighter topped Danzig in a truly entertaining UFC Fight Night 17 bout at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa. Neer earned a $30,000 Fight of the Night bonus for the effort.

"We would like to thank the UFC for being very supportive of Josh throughout his career and awarding his hard work with a new contract," Dubberly stated in an email. "The UFC is where Josh wants to fight... (He) is more focused than ever and is looking forward to his next fight in the UFC."

Neer is a six-year MMA professional who made his UFC debut in 2005. He's currently in his third stint with the organization.

There's no word on his next fight or opponent.

Fight Path: Why the lure of MMA proved strong for NFL lineman Rex Richards - MMA News

Rex Richards

Several years ago, Rex Richards arrived at a submission grappling tournament hosted by Brad Barnes, a professional fighter. Richards, the skilled offensive lineman standing at 6 feet 5 and 320 pounds who was still a mixed-martial-arts novice, was placed in the beginner division.

"He walked right through it," Barnes told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

Barnes, meanwhile, was handling the advanced division with ease, including a quick disposal of an opponent at least Richards' size. When both were through, they agreed on a friendly exhibition.

"I went up, kind of faking a shot, and went high," said Barnes, now MMA coach at West Texas Mixed Martial Arts and Fitness in Lubbock, Texas, and a close Richards friend. "It was a full-size collegiate wrestling mat, and he literally picked me up and threw me outside the big circle. I was 6 feet (tall), maybe 265 pounds at the time."

Barnes reset, and they continued.

"I thought maybe he's just a strong upper body," Barnes said of the former Texas Tech University, Indianapolis Colts and San Jose SaberCats offensive lineman. "I pulled guard, and he just went ahead and passed a half guard and sat on me. He went for a key lock."

Barnes, not a quitter, gulped.

"I tapped," Barnes said. "I thought, 'This guy will rip my arm right out of my body.'"

This is the story of big, bad, analytical and (some say) UFC-ready Rex Richards, a hope to beef up the organization's heavyweight division and make a stronger bridge between the NFL and MMA.

Richards' professional career has quickly led him to an 8-1 record, and his only loss came to Shane Carwin, the respected and undefeated UFC fighter. Each of his fights has ended in less than one round, underlining his power.

Yes, he's big enough to do all those things.

"His size is hard to describe," Barnes said, "unless you meet him."

Football first

On Nov. 12, 1993, Richards sat with his father and watched the first Ultimate Fighting Championship event broadcast. His mother wandered in and out of the West Texas family room.

"She thought we were scumbags for watching it," Richards said with a laugh. "Blood, punching in the groin. She was like, 'Great, my son wants to be a scumbag.'" But first Richards filled his life with football, the pride of Midland, Texas. By his senior season at Midland Lee High School, Richards was a highly sought-after offensive line recruit, and he received 40 NCAA Division I scholarship offers.

Richards chose Texas Tech, and he became an All-Big 12 Conference performer. His 40 starts set a school record for offensive linemen, and he later signed a free-agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts and then with the Arena Football League's SaberCats.

While at Texas Tech, though, Richards couldn't shake the feeling he experienced watching UFC 1. He signed up for a Brazilian jiu-jitsu class taught my Klay Pittman at Pittman's Academy of Martial Arts in Lubbock, Texas. He could already bench press 515 pounds, but the skill of this new art was a unique thrill.

Not long after, Richards found himself inside a New Mexico gym waiting for his first professional fight, against Ashley Rivers in a Renegades Extreme Fighting show. That November 2005 crowd of 300 or so wouldn't even have formed the concession-stand force at his college football games.

"I'm sitting there, hands wrapped, hitting Thai pads, thinking, 'What the hell are you doing?'" Richards said. "I'm telling myself, 'This is ridiculous. I'm gonna fight for 200 dollars. This guy could beat the hell outta me.' That's the only anxiety I had about it. Then it was like, 'Why didn't I do this sooner?'"

Growing career, slimming down

Yes, soon. That's how the fight ended. Richards beat that first opponent with an 84-second TKO.

In the next two years, Richards began his professional career 4-0 fighting in REF, Fightfest and Strikeforce events. In October 2007, he faced Shane Carwin in Art of War 4 and, this time, lost in the first round via guillotine choke.

Since, he licked Jeremy Carver in King of the Cage with a rear-naked choke and TKO'd Sunia Filikitonga in a Katana Cagefighting show.

In those professional fights, Richards has been viewed as a big, strong, commanding fighter who is both comfortable with large crowds from his football days and trained to study opponents from his hundreds of hours in film rooms.

"He has that raw talent and raw power," said Richards' manager, Mickey Dubberly of KO Dynasty Sports Management. "He's an offensive lineman who can pick you up and slam you, but he also studies and learns."

Now, supporters say, if only Richards could devote himself to MMA full time. If only his training schedule hadn't always been weighed down with other concerns - college football, professional football, a day job as a salesman with the family's oilfield company and, now, as a medical-sales representative.

Well, the latest one isn't so bad.

"Sometimes I'm in the operating room, watching them work on people's spines, working on their brains," Richards said. "It's interesting."

In fighting, Richards is entering the most important two months of his burgeoning career. He'll fight again Feb. 20. By his March bout he hopes to make the drop from super-heavyweight to heavyweight and fight at 265 pounds.

UFC officials have told Dubberly they like what they see, but Richards has to prove himself as a heavyweight. That means the next few weeks will be filled with 90-minute morning cardio routines to begin grueling days of workouts and a severe lack of carbohydrates in the diet.

"I work hard; I don't expect handouts," Richards said. "I've been hooked from the day I saw that first fight. I'm not just jumping on the bandwagon. I want to make it to the highest level, and I'm working as hard as I can to get there."

I took my first fight right out of the Marines, jumping straight in with an undefeated pro even though I had never had a single day of training. You can watch that fight if you go to youtube and search cleYburn walker. You'll see that he couldn't hurt me, however I was clearly outclassed so the ref did the right thing and called it. But at least I have proof that I don't puss out as soon as I'm in trouble. If you watch it you'll see what I mean.

Shortly after that I found my way to Lutter's. As long as I've had any training whatsoever I haven't lost. I have finished all my fights within the first or second round by submission. Although when I fought Matt Rangel, who was undefeated at the time, he verbally submitted to strikes, so some places have called that win a TKO.

My last fight was for Pro Battle MMA, which will be nationally televised. I was having a very off night and took a major beating the first round, but came back in the second and tapped him out in about 20 secs.

I represented Team Lutter, and Travis was working my corner. I also train with Alex Andrade, a PRIDE and UFC vet, Justin Wren, a 2X nat'l wrestling champ and 9-1 pro heavyweight with wins over Chris Guillen and Ralph Kelley, Jason House a prodigy under Muay Thai world champ Sakson Janjira, and Jeff Owen, a mundial super heavyweight world champion under Travis Lutter. UFC MMA Fighter Josh "The Dentist" Neer - New Years Incident - MMA News

Josh 'The Dentist' Neer

We are still looking into the matter as a lot of the facts are still unclear. We back Josh 100% in resolving this issue as quickly as possible, and putting this matter behind us and moving forward.

I know Josh on a personal and business level, and he is a great person, fighter, and loving father. We apologize to Josh's fans, family, friends, and the UFC while we have to deal with this incident. We are very grateful that the UFC has supported Josh thru out his career and has given him the opportunity to be a co-main event.

In no way do we ever want to bring any negativity towards the UFC as they have been nothing but great to Josh. Josh is already looking forward to put this incident behind him, and is focusing on his fight with Mac Danzig.

We would hope everyone would reserve judgment until all the facts are known in a court of law instead of just going off of hearsay.

No further comments will be made until after the court hearing. Josh wants to thank his friends, fans, family, training partners, The UFC, and everyone that stands behind him for supporting him thru his career.

Best Regards

No questioning Joey G's heart

Joey Gorczynski

Middleweight looking to make his mark at MFC 19

By MFC Staff

When it comes to getting the job done, Joey Gorczynski is a hard-working, blue-collar guy who finishes what he's started.

A 13-3 record shows "Joey G" has certainly proven that when given the opportunity he will accept the challenge before him and overcome the obstacle - a theme that he adopted in the face of severe adversity. The Oklahoma native will get the biggest break of his blossoming career at MFC 19: Long Time Coming when he meets Kyle Sanford on the televised HDNet Fights segment of the card from the River Cree Resort and Casino.

With a solid background in wrestling and a developing stand-up attack, Gorczynski is becoming a more complete fighter every day. One area that Gorczynski has never lacked is heart and determination. Those qualities have taken him from the brink of a career-threatening injury to becoming a fighter capable of re-energizing the MFC's middleweight division.

"I come to fight. No one can ever question my heart and no one will ever say I gave up," said Gorczynski, who proved to be a fighter outside the ring as well. A three-time state champion and high school All-American, Gorczynski moved onto to the college ranks but in the midst of a two-month undefeated run, he suffered a neck injury.

An initial misdiagnosis by team trainers led Gorczynski to continue competing but eventually the issue became too much to handle and it was finally determined that he had continued to battle with two broken vertebras. His parents and doctors recommended that he never compete again yet after a two-year layoff from action, Gorczynski came back -- not as the well-decorated wrestler but as a mixed martial arts fighter.

Now 24, Gorczynski comes to the MFC riding the second six-fight winning streak of his career although he feels this time around he'll be a decided underdog against the larger Sanford, who is a teammate of MFC light heavyweight champion Roger "The Hulk" Hollett. Still there's no doubting the inner confidence that Gorczynski exudes as he finished up his final preparations for the encounter.

"I know that if I don't do the right things I could get my ass kicked but if I do the right things I know I'm going to win," said Gorczynski, who goes solo in preparing for a fight.

"I do everything on my own - no trainer. I control everything which is what I like because that's the way it is when you fight - you're on your own. This is an important step for me. I've kicked pretty much everybody's ass in Oklahoma and the surrounding states so I need to move up.

"For a while I was relying too much on my wrestling but now I'm throwing combinations and really been focused on using my hands. I'm going to try and knock him out but if I can't knock him out, I'm still going to be able to take him down and then pound him some more. I know a few things about him but I never rely on one game plan. I think I've got a few things up my sleeve."

And that isn't the only trick Gorczynski has in the works, although the other one is more of a tinkering to his own mental strategy to a fight. Unlike the preparation for the majority of his past fights, Gorczynski is making the trek to the MFC with a more light-hearted and relaxed approach.

"I'm looking forward to making a bit of a switch," he explained. "When I went to Las Vegas and New Mexico for fights I considered them business trips. This time I want to take it more like a vacation. I've done all my hard work in training and now I need to go on a good vacation. I'm going to have a fun time and chill before the fight and not be so uptight which I think really effected me before."

Mac Danzig vs. Josh Neer added to UFC Fight Night 17

Josh Neer

by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Nov 24, 2008 at 3:45 pm ET

Despite no official announcement from the UFC of the event, a bout between Josh Neer (24-7-1 MMA, 3-4 UFC) and Mac Danzig (18-5-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) has been added to UFC Fight Night 17.

MMAjunkie.com first learned of the bout from Mickey Dubberly, Neer's manager from K.O. Dynasty Sports Management, and Danzig announced the bout yesterday on his MySpace page.

The bout, along with a rescheduled clash between Amir Sadollah and Nick Catone, is expected to take place Feb. 7 at The Palms in Las Vegas.

Danzig, "The Ultimate Fighter 6" winner, last fought at UFC Fight Night 15. The 28-year-old dropped a unanimous decision to Clay Guida. It was Danizg's first loss in the UFC after having previously defeated Tommy Speer and Mark Bocek by submission.

The PRIDE and King of the Cage veteran is just 2-3 in his previous five bouts, but had won 12-straight fights between 2004 and 2006.

Neer is coming off a razor-thin split-decision loss to Nate Diaz in September, also at UFC Fight Night 15. "The Dentist" fought on the organization's first Fight Night card in August 2005, but has made only sporadic appearances for the UFC since.

Having spent five years as a professional, the 25-year-old holds career wins over Din Thomas, Joe Stevenson and Melvin Guillard.

Spencer Fisher cruises to victory at UFC 90 & wins submission of the night!!!

Spencer Fisher

With KO Dynasty attending UFC 90 we could of not been more please with Spencer "King" Fisher at UFC 90 in Chicago.

Going into the lightweight fight between Spencer Fisher and Shannon Gugerty, conventional wisdom would be that if someone scored a submission win, it would be the Dean Lister-trained Gugerty a brown belt in BJJ. But in an exciting turn of events, it was Fisher pulling off a triangle choke submission win late in the third round.

Early into the fight, Gugerty (11-3) drew first blood with a solid takedown. Fisher (23-4) tried to keep Gugerty close to force the standup, but after a quick scramble, "The King" got up on his own power, even though Gugerty kept him pinned to the cage. Eventually, Fisher broke free, and scored huge with a few strikes, one cutting Gugerty over the left eye. Moments later, Fisher dropped Gugerty with a big right hook, drawing a roar from the crowd, but despite the strong finish, he was unable to finish the Gugerty.

After a visit from the doctor to check out the two gashes on his face, Gugerty gamely came out for round two, and after he missed a high kick, the two locked up against the fence. The pace dipped once the fighters separated, but picked up again when Fisher went for the takedown with a little over two minutes left and got caught in a guillotine from Gugerty. Fisher eventually escaped but got caught with a couple of head kicks.

Told by trainer Matt Hume to keep it standing, Fisher instead found himself on the mat in the final round, but the versatile Iowan locked in a tight triangle choke. Gugerty wouldn't give in, repeatedly giving referee David Smith the thumbs up sign to say that he was all right. But finally, Fisher pulled down on Gugerty's head, and it was game over for the game Californian, who was forced to tap out at the 3:56 mark. The 'King' went on to win submission of the night , and to go on a 2 win streak. Ko Dynasty will keep all the fans updated for what is next for 'The King'.

Spencer Fisher Will Take On Shannon Gugerty at UFC 90, Chicago Il, October 25, 2008

Spencer Fisher

Spencer Fisher (21-4) will take on Shannon Gugerty (11-2) - not Melvin Guillard as originally planned - at UFC 90: "Silva vs. Cote" at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Ill., on October 25, according to the CEO of KO Dynasty Sports Mgt., Mickey Dubberly.

No reason is known at this time for the opponent switch, but it appears on the surface to be a much safer fight for "The King."

Then again ... who really knows in this sport.

Fisher is fresh off a unanimous decision win over Jeremy Stephens at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 7 Finale in June. The Miletich Fighting Systems veteran has won two of his last four bouts, including a rematch against Sam Stout at UFC Fight Night 10 more than one year ago.

He is a former 155-pound contender. And he'll need to put together back-to-back wins to prove that he still belongs among the division's elite.

Gugerty made his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 14: "Silva vs. Irvin," submitting fellow newcomer Dale Hartt with a rear naked choke in round one. It marked the eighth straight win for the Total Combat promotion veteran who has finished more than 70 percent of his professional fights by way of submission.

In fact, Gugerty has not lost a bout since meeting up with Cub Swanson back in 2006.
