Spencer Fisher ready for Caol Uno - MMA News
March 19, 2009, By MatRatz.com Staff
MatRatz.com: Caol Uno is coming off a tough loss to Shinya Aoki. Do you think you will be able to present the
same problems for Uno?
Spencer Fisher: Aoki and I are two different fighters. I'm a striker that brings the jiu-jitsu aspect. Aoki
is a grappler through and through; there is no stand up in his body. Aoki is going to dive for your shoe laces, I'm
going to make you eat my shoe laces. I bring different problems. I am more aggressive and I plan on ripping his head off.
MatRatz.com: Uno is known for his world class grappling, what are you expecting from him?
Spencer Fisher: He's a strong wrestler. I started out a month early for this fight because I know Caol Uno does
not get tired. The majority of the fights he has won, he has taken the guy down and beat on him. But he likes to stand
and bang. He's a world class submission guy. He got second place at Abu Dhabi. He's the real deal, I expect him to be
my toughest fight in the UFC.
Matratz.com: Since you're no longer with the Miletich camp, where are you training for this fight?
Spencer Fisher: I got my own gym in Moline, Illinois. It's called Evolution. It's exciting to have my own gym open
and running. I got a couple of professional boxers here training with me. I got Matt Pena working with me, and Josh Neer
and Matt Grice will be coming up to train with me also for this fight. I just had surgery about three months ago; I don't
want to disclose what it was, but I'm sure people have heard. But I will be 100% for this fight, no excuses.
MatRatz.com: If you get past Uno, who would you like to fight next.
Spencer Fisher: I want to fight somebody that will come to fight, not someone that lays on me for three rounds. I say
that and I mean that, whole heartily. If you going to take me down, finish the fight. Don't lay on top off me and blanket me.
No one wants to see that. I would like to fight B.J. Penn, I think he is the best fighter in the world.
MatRatz.com: B.J. Penn is set to fight Kenny Florian sometime this year. Do you think Florian has a shot at beating B.J. Penn?
Spencer Fisher: Yea, he does have a shot. But I think B.J. is going to make a statement with Florian in this fight. I
know his last loss was controversial, but I think B.J is looking to make a statement.
MatRatz.com: You lost to Frankie Edgar, who is fighting Sean Sherk. Would you like to fight the winner of that fight?
Spencer Fisher: I want to fight someone; if they are going to take me down, they are going to try to finish the fight.
Don't lay and blanket me, that is my biggest concern. If they take me down, then finish me. Otherwise, let's fight. People want
to see a fight, not a wrestling match. The fans want to see a fight and that's what I do. I don't care who I fight as long as
they come to fight. I'm not saying this to be arrogant or cocky; I just think people should come to fight. Don't let the judges
decide it, come and finish me.
MatRatz.com: Sherk and Griffin threw down pretty much the whole fight; what was your thought seeing two wrestlers go out
there and bang like that?
Spencer Fisher: Well, you're talking about two guys that cancel each others strong point. I saw that fight 100% staying on
the feet. But, Sean can fight. He has his strong points, which are his wrestling and conditioning. But we saw in that fight with
Griffin, if he can't take a guy down at will, then he will stand and trade, which makes for a more exciting fight.
MatRatz.com: Thanks for you time. It is appreciated...
Spencer Fisher: No problem, I want to thank KO dynasty and Toe2Toe.
