Why Market Your Brand In Mixed Martial Arts?
  • This week's episode of The Ultimate Fighter generated the best viewership numbers yet for the reality show's Season 11.

Ratings estimates for Wednesday yielded a 1.9 rating for Wednesday's TUF 11 show among mixed martial arts' primary demographic of men ages 18 to 49, and a 2.4 for men 18 to 34, Spike TV said today. The one-hour broadcast drew an average of 2 million viewers -- the best in four episodes for Season 11 so far, according to the network.

Among men to 18 to 34, TUF 11 beat TNT's broadcast of a playoff game between the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs, Spike said. TUF 11 came in second for that demographic, behind Comedy Central's South Park and Ugly Americans.

  • MMAPayout.com has learned that the fifth episode of The Ultimate Fighter Season 11 drew a 1.3 HH rating on the strength of an average audience of 1.8 million viewers. The show fared well in the M18-34 and M18-49 demographics with a 2.6 and 1.92, respectively.

Interestingly, the 2.6 in the M18-34 was not only the highest rating the show has received all season, but it also beat out the NBA’s Hawks/Bucks playoff game on TNT (2.4).

  • October 8, 2009, New York, NY– The cast of “The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights” on Spike TV delivered a ratings knockout punch to the MLB Playoffs last night on TBS. More young men in the advertiser-coveted demographic of 18-34 watched the fourth episode of the new season of “The Ultimate Fighter” (10:00-11:00pm ET/PT) on Spike TV than any of the three MLB playoff games on TBS.

  • The Ultimate Fighting Championship's Saturday fight card was a huge ratings winner for Spike TV, according to TV viewership figures released Tuesday. The finale of the Ultimate Fighter reality series peaked at 2.8 million viewers.

Interestingly, that peak audience occurred towards the end of the card, indicating the event held onto its viewership incredibly well leading into the main event.

The main event between Diego "The Nightmare" Sanchez and Clay "The Carpenter" Guida drew more viewers in the M18-34 and M18-49 demographic than any other televised sporting event on the night, including the U.S. Open golf tournament and major league baseball.

Among males aged 18-34, which is the most hotly tracked demographic, the show drew a 3.1 rating, which is close to a record high for cable channel Spike TV. Across all demographics, the fight card drew a 1.5 household share.

  • Spike TV officials today reported that episode No. 5 of "TUF 11" earned an average audience of 1.8 million viewers and edged out Wednesday's NBA playoff game between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Atlanta Hawks with a 2.6 rating with males ages 18-34.

The NBA game had a 2.4 rating in the key demo, a difference of approximately 42,000 viewers.

"The Ultimate Fighter 11" also netted an impressive 3.2 mark in men ages 18-24. The numbers qualified Spike TV as the second-most watched basic cable station during the timeslot in men ages 18-24, as well as men ages 18-34.

  • You never thought you'd see the day, right? A mixed martial arts fight between a guy who was most recently knocked out in 16 seconds against a guy so fat he couldn't keep his belly from spilling out just walking into the cage... beat Jay Leno.

And yet, it happened Wednesday night, bringing cable channel Spike TV their biggest ratings to date.

The episode of The Ultimate Fighter reality TV show featuring former IFL champ Roy Nelson performing a "lay'n'pray" routine on former YouTube streetfighter Kimbo Slice drew 6.1 million viewers at its peak, which pipped The Jay Leno Show at 5.99 million.

  • This week's new installment of the Spike TV reality series, which marked the season's midway point as episode No. 6, drew a 1.3 household rating and an average audience of 1.7 million viewers, officials today announced.

Among cable stations, the show was the second-highest-rated program in its timeslot with men 18-48 and men 18-34.
